Prologue

The highway was empty, silent — like the world had gone to sleep.

Clock struck 11 PM, and the sky was wrapped in navy blue, dotted with a few tired stars still holding on.

A black SUV slid through the road like a ghost — smooth, fast, and quiet.

In the driver’s seat sat a man, tall and broad-shouldered, with a strangely calm expression resting on his face. His name? Advait Singh Rathore. Chemistry professor by profession, mystery by presence.

He was driving alone, mind lost in unspoken thoughts, when—

THUD!

he tires screeched against the broken asphalt of an abandoned road. His breath hitched, hands slamming the brakes in pure reflex.

His heart hammered in his chest.

What the hell was that?

For a second, silence. Then his eyes widened.

Right in the middle of the road… was a fragile figure.

A girl. Running blindly into the path of his car like she was escaping a nightmare.

Now lying on the ground… motionless.

He jumped out, heart pounding. As he reached closer, he saw a petite frame curled in a child-like position.

She wore a crimson-red Anarkali, soaked in dust, her long hair open and veiling her face like a curtain of shadows.

“Ma’am?” he called, softly tapping her shoulder. “Ma’am, can you hear me?”

No response.

With a heavy sigh, he leaned down, brushing the strands of hair away from her face.

And that’s when he saw her.

And froze.

Her face. Pale. Beautiful. Familiar?

No. Impossible.

His throat dried. Panic surged.

Without wasting another second, he picked her up in his arms — the bridal style somehow feeling too intimate for two strangers, and yet, it felt like instinct.

He placed her gently in the passenger seat and sped towards the nearest hospital.

“She’s just severely weak,” the doctor said after an hour. “Looks like she hasn’t eaten in days. Nothing serious… but she needs rest. And food. Give these medicines on time.”

He nodded silently, eyes stuck on the unconscious woman behind the glass window.

—------------------------------------------

Six hours passed.

Sunlight streamed into the white-walled room like hope entering a forgotten place.

The woman stirred — slowly, as if waking up from a long dream. Her eyes fluttered open, disoriented.

Where was she?

The white sheets. The beeping machines. The antiseptic smell.

Hospital.

Just then, a nurse entered. “Ma’am, you’re awake! I’ll call the doctor,” she said with a soft smile and left.

Moments later, the doctor entered with the nurse, checking her vitals, asking questions but she barely registered.

Her head was spinning. Everything felt far away. Like she wasn’t even present in her own body.

“Call the man who brought her in,” the doctor finally said, sensing her blank state.

The door opened, and a tall man stepped inside.

Sharp jawline, broad shoulders, black shirt rolled at the sleeves, and those piercing eyes — the kind that made silence feel loud.

Aaradhya’s eyes met his — and for a second, time didn’t move.

He didn’t say anything at first. Just stood there. Watching her.

And then, in a voice that was calm… but carried a quiet storm beneath:

“What were you doing on an abandoned road... alone, at night?”

His tone wasn’t harsh. But it wasn’t gentle either. It was the tone of a man who didn’t like questions going unanswered.

Her eyes glistened with a sorrow that words could never hold.

A lone tear slipped down her cheek, followed by a quiet sob that broke the silence of the room.

Watching her like this, something inside Advait clenched.

The calm in his eyes turned into concern.Without saying a word, he gestured the doctor and nurse to leave the room.

Now, it was just the two of them — a shattered girl and a man who had no reason to care, yet somehow... he did. After a moment, she slowly lifted her gaze.

Her eyes met his — no longer harsh, just soft... understanding.

"I… I was running away from my wedding,” she whispered, voice trembling.“They were forcing me into something I never wanted. A marriage arranged by my parents… I didn’t even know the man properly. I just… I couldn’t do it.”

Advait remained silent for a second, letting her words settle in the air.

Then he spoke, voice calm but steady.“You shouldn’t have done this to your parents. They must be panicking. You’re their daughter… their entire world.Running away wasn’t the solution, Aaradhya. You need to communicate with them. Make them understand.”

Aaradhya looked down, ashamed, but somehow relieved that someone finally spoke without judging her.

Maybe… he was right. Maybe she should’ve talked to them instead of escaping.

But little did she know…

her parents were never ready to listen.

“Give me your address,” Advait said gently.

“I’ll take you home. At least your parents will stop worrying.”

1.5 Hours Later – Outside Aaradhya’s Home

The car came to a halt. But what awaited them wasn’t peace... it was chaos.

A huge crowd had gathered outside her house — men holding wooden sticks, some even armed with rifles. The air was thick with tension, and fury burned in every eye.

Her heart sank.

Face drained of all color, her eyes widened.
